Every local municipality has their own guidelines to follow and many of the guidelines are predetermined by larger governing bodies. It is always advisable to contact the persons or group responsible in your area for all code enforcements. Give us a call and we will be happy to advise you on permits.
Some factors to consider when looking at an area are: type of soil, both surface and subsurface, slope of ground, depth of water needed, type of use of the pond, size of area, and of course, type of and amount of water supply. A simple meet and greet may be all that is necessary to determine this, but it is always best to examine the soil down to the depth needed to develop the pond and/or dike.
After determining what the area is used for one must consider the cause of the problem. Is it surface or subsurface water or a combination of both? Can you determine the source of the water? Based on these and additional factors, some of which may be, location of fixed objects, boundaries, slope of ground, size of area, then a possible solution may be derived. Some repairs can be as simple as providing a consistent, positive surface drainageway to a much more complex solution involving subsurface and/or surface drainage pipes and geotextiles and stone.
There is no typical driveway width. The typical driveway is the one that works for your situation. (11'-13' if there were a standard). A driveway needs to be wide enough so there is an area of solid footing on either side of the path that a vehicle follows. Traffic should never follow in the same path all the time, therefore, the driving area needs to be wide enough so you can drive on different areas each time you traverse it. There are many other considerations that need to be taken into account such as: length of drive, how straight is the drive, steepness of grade, drainage; both on top and alongside drive, ground condition, types of materials used to build drive; both base and surface material. Also, types of vehicles that will be traveling on the drive.
